Members Update
As you are probably aware the club is closed for bowling at present as our facility is being utilised by the NHS as a vaccination centre.
The NHS originally contacted the club earlier this year at the height of the pandemic with a view to hiring the club out on contract. As we were unable to hold a Committee meeting at the time, given the lockdown, the Chairman made contact with Committee members by phone to obtain their views and as a result it was agreed for them to use the club.
The decision to let the club out at the time made sense as firstly the club was closed, it would help the local community and a fee for the hire was agreed bringing in much needed income.
The members should be very proud of the action taken by the committee. The Club by their actions have enabled many thousands of local residents to receive their life saving protecting vaccines earlier than expected. I am sure we each remember how relived we felt when we had our own vaccine.
This contract expires on the 31st August 2021, but the NHS have informed us that they may be in a position to end the contract before that date depending on circumstances.
So all being well we should be in a position to reopen the club again at the latest on Friday 3rd September 2021 under our Summer hours before we switch to the Winter timetable in late September, subject of course to the PM’s roadmap and within Covid guidelines.
Now restrictions are easing the Committee once again will resume regular meetings together with holding an overdue AGM at the earliest opportunity. Also given that the members have had limited opportunity to bowl in the last fourteen months a decision has been taken to reduce the annual membership fee for the coming winter season from September 2021 by 50% to £30.00. The fact that the club is in a position to do this is as a result of the Government grants that we applied for through the pandemic, coming to fruition.
League team captains from the 2019/20 season will be contacted in the coming weeks regarding the new season and a full match programme has already been arranged on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, details of which will be sent out with the subscription renewal letters.
In the meantime keep safe.
